Helping Move Downtown Forward

Project Timelines

What’s happening now

Sound Transit and the Federal Transit Administration plan to release a new draft environmental impact statement (DEIS) this year that will analyze the impacts of building six new stations and two tunnels through downtown Seattle at the same time.

The Future Tracks coalition will review and comment on the DEIS and these comments and others will inform the Sound Transit Board of Directors’ decision to confirm or modify the project’s preferred alternative. This decision is anticipated in early 2026.

What’s next?

After the public has a chance to weigh in on the DEIS, we are advocating for Sound Transit to work with us to agree on mitigation measures to be included in the Final EIS and Record of Decision that will be published in late 2026. The Board of Directors will then select the project to be built.

Please visit the Ballard Link Extension project website for the most recent information regarding the project.
